5 transaction types. 1 API. Infinite possibilities.
As protocols upgrade, Turnkey does, too. We move fast to support new transaction types, so that you can iterate and test your product to ensure full compatibility even before major infrastructure changes go live.
We’ve now added full support for EIP-4844 and EIP-7702, which include two new transaction types (Type 3 and Type 4 transactions) to upgrade the core Ethereum protocol.
By taking advantage of blob transactions and account abstraction benefits, Type 3 and Type 4 transactions enable developers to build cheaper, faster, and more intuitive products for their end users. As one of the first key management infrastructure providers to add EIP-4844 support, we’re excited to continue empowering builders to take advantage of Ethereum’s recent upgrades to build their dream product, or improve an existing one.
What you can do with Type 3 transactions (EIP-4844)
Type 3 transactions were introduced in the Dencun upgrade last year to drastically reduce costs for Layer 2 rollups settling transactions on the Ethereum mainnet. They enable developers to store data in temporary "blobs" that reference large datasets without including the full data in the transaction itself.
You can take advantage of Type 3 transaction support on Turnkey to:
- Improve L2 rollup solutions: Build more efficient optimistic or zero-knowledge rollups by posting transaction data at lower costs, or leveraging blobs for zero-knowledge proof data.
- Scale high-throughput apps with lowered fees: Dramatically reduce gas costs for both end users and developers.
- Build data availability services: Create applications that can serve as data indexers for blob data, provide archival services for blobs before they expire, or create APIs that make blob data more accessible to developers.
What you can do with Type 4 transactions (EIP-7702)
Type 4 transactions enable Externally Owned Wallets (EOAs) to temporarily function as smart contract wallets and reap the benefits of account abstraction, allowing developers to unlock intuitive, seamless UX.
You can take advantage of Type 4 transaction support on Turnkey to:
- Enable gasless transaction experiences: Design applications where transactions can be sponsored by third parties, removing the ETH requirement barrier for new users and simplifying onboarding.
- Create seamless applications with transaction batching: Bundle multiple operations into single transactions, significantly reducing gas costs and improving UX for complex DeFi or high-frequency trading.
- Implement flexible authentication systems: Build applications that can leverage passkeys and biometrics while maintaining compatibility with existing EOA infrastructure and reputation systems.
Type 4 transactions will go live in the Ethereum Pectra upgrade in May, but you can start implementing on Testnet today with Turnkey. Head to our docs to get started!
