About

Squads builds products and APIs on stablecoin rails to unlock the benefits of modern money. The company is best known for its multisig platform, Squads Multisig, and its consumer product, Fuse. Both products are built on top of Squads Protocol—the autonomous finance layer on Solana.

Backed by top-tier investors like Electric Capital and Coinbase Ventures, Squads secures over $10 billion in digital assets, has processed over $3.5 billion in stablecoins and is trusted by 350+ teams across the Solana ecosystem.

Challenge: Optimizing onchain transactions for enterprise users

A core part of Squads mission and business is making onchain asset management simple and secure.

While the company is no stranger to success, having helped hundreds of onchain organizations manage billions in digital assets, its permissionless, self-serve model meant enterprise users were often managing fragmented transaction fees across company wallets.

For these companies, transactions — like sending payments or approving treasury activity — often require multiple team members to review and sign using their individual wallets. This process is great for transparency and security, but it creates operational overhead. For example, when a company wants to pay a vendor or move funds, three or more team members might each need to approve the transaction from their own wallet.

The result? Every signer needs to hold enough SOL to cover gas fees. That meant tracking gas payments across dozens of wallets, making fee reconciliation for tax purposes a major headache for accounting teams. It also created real operational issues: if just one team member ran low on SOL, time-sensitive transactions could stall entirely.

While managing gas fees and wallet balances are well-known thorns in the sides of crypto-literate users, those expecting an experience similar to web2 found this complexity overbearing.

As a platform built with ease of use as its primary differentiator, Squads needed a way to:

  1. Eliminate the friction of managing gas fees across multiple employee wallets
  2. Simplify the user experience
  3. Drive increased adoption among non-technical organizations

That's when the team discovered Turnkey.

"When organizations have employees all transacting with SOL through individual wallets, accounting becomes an absolute mess. I can't think of a single team, regardless of crypto fluency, that wants to deal with that."

Solution: Turnkey powers streamlined and traceable transactions

Turnkey’s key management infrastructure empowered Squads to streamline how enterprise users pay and track transaction fees, making the entire process faster, cleaner, and easier to manage.

To support this, Turnkey’s team worked with Squads to deploy private keys programmatically across user accounts, enabling each company using Squads Multisig to route all transaction fees through a shared vault, rather than having employees pay from their individual wallets.

Powered by Turnkey, this system (known as the Fee Relayer) automatically covers gas fees on behalf of team members, enabling Squads to maintain a permissionless experience even as they scale. It removes the need for employees to manage their own SOL balances and makes it dramatically easier for accounting teams to track and reconcile fee payments.

Better yet? Because each new key generated is handled entirely by Turnkey, Squads can continue to onboard more users without getting bogged down in key management tasks and security. "We serve hundreds of businesses and secure billions of dollars, and it's all permissionless," explains Garrett Harper, Head of Business Development at Squads. "Turnkey abstracts the key management process, which enables us to move quickly."

The benefits don't stop with Squads' enterprise users. Turnkey also enabled email-based recovery for Squads consumer wallet app, Fuse, making the experience more accessible to users unfamiliar with — or uninterested in — traditional wallets that require managing private keys.”

Squads now serves a much broader audience, from crypto-native teams to newcomers, without compromising internal bandwidth or user growth.

The collaboration now extends to Altitude, Squads’ newest product, designed to help businesses save, earn, and move dollars using stablecoins. Aimed at users who want the benefits of onchain finance without the complexity of crypto, Altitude uses Turnkey to power email-based sign-up, making onboarding intuitive and secure for a broader audience.

“Most people don’t want to think about private keys or network fees — they just want things to work. Turnkey helps us build experiences that feel familiar to anyone.”

Results: Expanded market reach, satisfied users, and a strong foundation for growth

With Turnkey at its side, Squads has created a more intuitive, accessible platform — both for businesses and individual users.

And the results speak for themselves:

  • 100,000+ transactions processed through Turnkey
  • 270+ SOL in gas fees covered without end-user friction
  • Fully integrated with minimal engineering lift

As Squads continues to prioritize accessibility across its many products, its team is eager to work with Turnkey to incorporate more features like email-based signups for both enterprises and individual users. Turnkey’s secure key management, enforced access controls, and reliable infrastructure give the team confidence that these features will scale safely as they continue to innovate.

“Turnkey gives us the foundation to scale. It’s seamless, secure, and frees up time to focus on building great products.”
