Challenge

Provisioning branded dollar accounts at scale required flexible, non-custodial infrastructure

After Lightspark established the underlying Grid infrastructure for global money movement on Bitcoin, the company needed to turn its focus to user-facing payment solutions. Its team conceptualized Grid Global Accounts, a product that would allow any business to create branded dollar accounts, letting users send and receive funds anywhere in the world. 

But Grid Global Accounts would serve as more than a place to store and send funds. The product needed to enable businesses to issue dollar balances linked to stablecoins, move money in and out of local bank rails, let end users spend in the real world, and connect seamlessly to other chains and assets. 

Through Lightspark’s partnership with Brale, stablecoin issuance, token minting, and burning were already in place. But the team still needed wallet infrastructure for signing and key management.

Rather than building this infrastructure from scratch, Lightspark chose Turnkey for its low-level APIs and non-custodial embedded wallets.

Lightspark integrated with Turnkey in a single week, solidifying the non-custodial wallet infrastructure layer powering Grid Global Accounts. “The entire onboarding was super quick,” shares Dhruv Pareek, Full Stack Software Engineer at Lightspark. “Most of the features we needed were ready out of the box, and the Turnkey team was quick to work through our broader requirements for Spark transactions.”

Today, Turnkey supports embedded wallet functionality within all Grid Global Accounts. Private keys are generated and stored inside Turnkey’s secure enclaves, remaining protected throughout their lifecycle. End users authenticate with familiar methods to authorize onchain actions, without the complexity of managing wallets or handling private keys themselves.

“Google, Apple, and email authentication are all supported by Turnkey, and are very useful in eliminating the technical overhead linked to account creation and transaction signing,” Dhruv shares.

Lightspark works with Brale, the issuer of USDB, to support stablecoin issuance and related reserve and compliance operations. This gives Lightspark a regulated, fully reserved dollar stablecoin that can settle natively on Bitcoin via Spark, without Lightspark needing to run its own issuance, treasury, or regulatory stack.

Beyond USDB, Brale enables businesses to launch their own branded, fiat‑backed stablecoins and plug into existing on‑ and off‑ramps, reserve management, and attestations through a single API. For Lightspark, Brale’s APIs effectively abstract away the operational lift of reserve management, attestations, and chain support, enabling businesses and end users to transact seamlessly.
